New patient, 9 yr FS lab. exercise intolerance, panting

Hx chronic cough, prior heartworm disease. recently dx by internist with severe pulmonary hypertension secondary to Cor Pulmonale. Guarded px. on vetmedin, sidafenil, theophylline. Also, UTI, Urinary incontinence, Arthritis (early cruciate R stifle, R tarsal OA, hip OA), Masses.
T: very thin, draped across teeth. light pinkish purple with phelgm lines and thin white coating
P: weak, fast, thin
Earth personality at home, Water in clinic
Heat signs with Qi stagnation, TBO, damp and qi deficiency.

Best to start with Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang? Will be seeing dog for weekly AP too. O biggest issue is too many medications and wants to wean her off. My hope is that we can at least reduce/discontinue theophylline if cough improves and hopefully reduce other meds pending response.
thanks! Laurie

Hi Laurie,

I think that is a fine place to start. Let us know what happens over the coming weeks. As he gets stronger, you may find Minor Bupleurum will accentuate the benefits of XFZYT, but with a thin pulse (and thus potential Blood deficiency) at present, it's best not to start with it. Let the XFZYT build up the Blood first, and mobilize things a bit.

Hope that helps!

Steve
